About

Position Overview Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center and Piedmont Physicians are recruiting a General Neurosurgeon to join our team of top‑notch surgeons who lead the community in providing patient‑centered neurosurgical services. Practice volumes are high and continue to grow, attracting patients from the 18 surrounding counties in the greater Athens area and beyond. Surgical volumes are currently more than 400 cases per surgeon per year with a wide variety of conditions, including degenerative spine and adult deformity, peripheral nerve pathology, cranial and spinal oncology, and trauma. This is a great opportunity to work with a team dedicated to quality, patient satisfaction, innovation, and maintaining a practice culture of support and caring, and are ready to support you in building a practice from day one.
Piedmont Athens is part of the largest healthcare system in Georgia, providing an extensive primary‑care referral network through Piedmont Clinic and an outstanding group of subspecialists to support advanced neurosurgical care. The hospital is a 427‑bed facility dedicated to providing the best care for Northeast Georgia, recently expanding with a new tower including dedicated ICU space. The radiology department is staffed with 8 neuroradiologists who provide subspecialty support 24/7. The hospital is an ACS Certified Level II trauma center, with a dedicated trauma surgery service. Neurohospitalists provide inpatient neurology support, and our hospitalist and intensivist teams provide admission and consult service.
We have a dedicated neuro floor with experienced staff, including physical therapy and social work on the unit. Hospital surgical facilities include 4 1.5‑Tesla MRIs, 6 CT scanners, a Stealth imaging system for navigation, 2 O‑arms, and 3 surgical microscopes. We operate on a block system in the OR, and our new surgeon will have dedicated block time on arrival. Call is very reasonable, with practice call covered by Neurosurgical APPs and shared among Piedmont Neurosurgery partners. Trauma call is shared with another local group, with 1/8 call responsibility upon arrival of an additional Neurosurgeon. There is no pediatric call or neurovascular call.
Our physicians are affiliated with the University of Georgia sports‑medicine department, providing care to athletes and involved in developing management protocols for athletics. They also hold faculty appointments at the UGA/MCG medical school in Athens, offering opportunities for research and teaching.
Practice the most advanced neurosurgery in a supportive, collegial environment, in a community where you can raise a family, eat well, enjoy the outdoors, listen to great music, and love your neighbors.
