Overview AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support every data center, from servers and storage to networking, power, and cooling, ensuring continuous access to the innovations our customers rely on. At the heart of this effort is the AWS Hardware Engineering team, which creates industry‑leading server designs that drive operational excellence and meet critical business strategies. The AWS Firmware team focuses on system innovation across all services—including EC2, S3, and CloudFront—solving problems that blend software, hardware, and the cloud.
The Embedded Software Development Engineer in this team builds and owns server‑related firmware. Working alongside world‑class software developers, you will develop, validate, and support firmware in diverse domains, from embedded systems to large‑scale distributed software, using both proprietary and open‑source technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain Server Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) software.
Write and improve scripting languages for firmware automation.
Support Data Center Operations by creating tools and utilities.
Develop Linux kernel drivers for hardware components.
Collaborate across software, hardware, and network teams to deliver high‑quality, scalable firmware solutions.
Validate, test, and troubleshoot firmware across multiple platforms.
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions.
Qualifications Basic Qualifications
5+ years of professional software development experience.
5+ years of programming with at least one industry‑standard language.
Experience leading design, architecture, and scaling of new and existing systems.
Demonstrated mentorship or leadership of engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

The base salary range for this position is USD 193,300.00 – 261,500.00 annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
