About
Overview The Senior Database Administrator role supports a wide range of database systems across TECO Energy’s enterprise environment. This position may be filled at various levels within the progression (Associate, Senior, Lead, or Consultant) depending on the candidate’s experience. The DBA works closely with development teams, other IT departments, and external vendors to design, implement, and maintain secure, high‑performance database solutions.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and monitor database backup and recovery strategies, including testing and documentation.
Perform database installation, configuration, upgrade, and patch management, ensuring compatibility with application requirements.
Analyze and tune SQL queries and database performance to meet response time and throughput goals.
Develop and maintain logical and physical database models, converting designs into Data Definition Language (DDL) scripts.
Maintain and enforce database standards and procedures for primary DBMS products (Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle) and related tools.
Lead or participate in data integration and data‑warehousing projects, coordinating with business partners and vendors.
Provide on‑call support for database issues 24/7 and coordinate with the DBA team to ensure continuity of critical systems.
Assist in emerging technology evaluation, recommending new database products or enhancements for improved productivity.
Mentor junior DBA staff, coaching them on best practices and technical expertise.
Coordinate project activities, prioritize assignments, and report progress to the Application Development & Support manager.
Qualifications Education and experience requirements vary by level, but all candidates should have:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
Minimum of four years of direct database administration experience (six years for Senior, eight years for Lead, ten years for Consultant).
Hands‑on experience with Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle RDBMS; familiarity with additional systems such as DB2 or SQL Server is a plus.
Strong knowledge of SQL, data modeling, and performance tuning.
Experience with backup/restore, high‑availability, and disaster‑recovery planning.
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Database Administrator, Oracle Certified Professional) are preferred.
