About

Our client is seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to support reporting and analytics needs within a mission‑driven organization. This contract‑to‑hire, onsite/hybrid role is based in Downtown Chicago.

Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports using best practices for performance, usability, and data governance.
Partner with business users across operations, finance, and program teams to gather requirements and translate them into impactful visualizations.
Create and optimize Power BI data models, including relationships, measures, and calculated columns.
Develop and maintain complex DAX calculations and Power Query (M) transformations.
Integrate Power BI with multiple data sources such as SQL Server, Excel, flat files, and cloud or third‑party systems.
Ensure high levels of data accuracy, consistency, and auditability, especially in reporting used for leadership, compliance, or funding purposes.
Implement and manage row‑level security (RLS) and role‑based access in Power BI.
Monitor and improve dataset and dashboard performance.
Document reports, data models, and metric definitions to support transparency and long‑term maintainability.
Collaborate with IT, data, and analytics teams to align with enterprise reporting standards.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience as a Power BI Developer or Business Intelligence Developer.
Strong experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
Advanced knowledge of DAX, Power Query (M), and dimensional data modeling.
Solid SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.
Understanding of data warehousing and ETL concepts.
Ability to clearly explain data insights to non‑technical stakeholders.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting education, nonprofit, healthcare, or social service organizations.
Exposure to Azure data platforms (Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse).
Familiarity with data security, governance, and compliance‑driven reporting.
Power BI or Microsoft certification(s) a plus.
