About
Plan and implement a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention program. Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness and formulate an impression of the injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care and referral to a physician for definitive diagnosis and treatment, if appropriate. Administer first aid and emergency care for acute athletic injuries and illnesses. Coordinate, plan, and implement a comprehensive rehabilitation program for athletic injuries. Coordinate, plan and supervise all administrative components of an athletic training or sports medicine program. Provide health care information and counsel athletes accordingly. Conduct research and provide instruction on subject matter related to athletic training or sports medicine. Distribute, review, and maintain files for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and YISD pre-participation physical examinations and participation paperwork. Coordinate scheduling of athletic physical examinations. Maintain records for athletic injuries, referrals to physicians, and treatments administered. Ensure water is available for teams at practice and games. Inform coaches of injuries and participation status of student athletes. Establish an emergency care plan in the event 911 must be activated. Provide practice coverage as assigned by principal or designee. Provide licensed athletic trainer coverage for UIL high school home contests. Provide licensed athletic trainer coverage for all varsity football games home or away. Provide licensed athletic trainer coverage for UIL playoff teams. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
Other Responsibilities:
Participate in professional development activities as required by the district. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university; valid Texas teaching certificate with the required endorsements for the subject and level assigned, demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned, one (1) year student teaching or approved internship, ability to instruct students and manage their behavior, strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Valid Athletic Trainer license from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license; must be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional districtwide and statewide travel. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, moderate lifting. Movement of athletic training equipment to game and practice sites. Work from home or location other than school building.
