Your Role on the Team Position Summary The incumbent manages a team that provides the comprehensive Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) services for the UCI Medical Center and School of Medicine. Responsibilities include the development and maintenance of a global enterprise data architecture strategy to guide and inform all initiatives related to the re‑use of clinical data to support quality, regulatory, financial, administrative and clinical research. The role champions and governs enterprise data architecture standards, tools, best practices and development methodologies while providing proactive technical oversight. The incumbent mentors BIA developers and analysts to foster re‑use, design for scale, performance, stability, and operational efficiency. Key areas of delivery include analysis, design & implementation of logical data models; physical database objects; data conversion, integration and loading processes (ETL); query and reporting functions; data management, visualization and governance; and data quality assurance processes.
Required Qualifications What It Takes to be Successful
Strong healthcare informatics knowledge, especially in the area of data management, including data warehouse development and implementation, data integration (ETL), and meta‑data management
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
BA in Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science or related field
Ability to translate business questions and requirements into reports, templates and analytical views
Ability to manage multiple medium to large projects simultaneously
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and analyze and interpret data to draw valid conclusions for complex business issues
5+ years of programming experience, including SQL, XML and Java
5+ years of experience designing, configuring and managing BI tools that support user‑defined needs, creating and delivering user‑defined reports, providing end‑user training, and documentation in a healthcare environment
2+ years of experience managing a team responsible for developing and implementing BI, analytics and data warehousing solutions in a healthcare environment
Preferred Qualifications
Masters in Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science or related field
Knowledge of healthcare and academic industry
Experience using ServiceNow to manage team workload
Experience using SSIS to build ETLs
Experience using MS Reporting Services (MSRS) and knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services
Data Warehouse development experience
Business Intelligence (BI) tools experience
