Lead Data Engineer Richardson, TX (Hybrid) Direct Client – Contract Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilledLead Data Engineerwith exceptional expertise inSQL development and optimization, and deep experience working withPostgreSQL and Snowflakedatabases. The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, performance tuning, and reliability of data platforms while ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and strong access controls. This role requires hands-on technical leadership, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to design scalable, secure, and resilient data systems. Key Responsibilities SQL & Database Engineering Design, write, analyze, and maintaincomplex SQL queriesfor analytics and data processing. Optimize and tune SQL queries for performance and scalability. Create and manageviews, materialized views, indexes, and database objects. Perform deep-divequery execution analysisand troubleshooting. Ensure SQL code follows best practices for performance, readability, and maintainability. Work extensively withPostgreSQL and Snowflake, including: Schema design and data modeling Performance tuning and cost optimization Query optimization and workload management Lead database design decisions and guide best practices across teams. Design and manageclustered environmentswithHigh Availability (HA). Define and implementDisaster Recovery (DR)strategies. Establish and monitorRTO (Recovery Time Objective)andRPO (Recovery Point Objective). Participate in DR testing, failover planning, and system resilience improvements. Implement and manageRBAC (Role-Based Access Control)for databases. Ensure data security, access control, and compliance with internal standards. Collaborate with security and compliance teams on audits and reviews.
Required Skills & Qualifications Strong expertise inSQL: Writing advanced queries Query optimization and tuning Indexing strategies and execution plan analysis Hands-on experience withPostgreSQL and Snowflake. Solid understanding of: Database performance tuning Views, indexes, partitions, and query optimization techniques Experience designing and supportingHA and DR architectures. Strong knowledge ofRBAC, database security, and access control. Practical experience defining and meetingRTO and RPOrequirements. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and technical leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications Experience leading or mentoring data engineering teams. Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Experience with data warehousing, analytics platforms, or ETL pipelines. Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools for databases.
