Qualified candidate will be required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear; Sit and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch; Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus; have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; and possess effective communication, judgmental, planning and human relations skills, and will be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility. Provide coverage for home varsity contests on a schedule cooperatively determined by Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director, as well as cover non-varsity contests in football and varsity football away games. Varsity and selected non-varsity contests will be covered based on the risk of the sports and the availability of the Athletic Trainer during a particular sport season. Provide practice coverage as determined by the Athletic Director and Athletic Director will typically include daily coverage of varsity and non-varsity sports. This coverage will be based upon injury risk of the sport and other mutually agreed upon factors. Cover selected postseason contests as determined by the Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director. Provide for the prevention of athletic injuries through the application of protective tapings, wraps, and braces, and assist in the design of practices to help to reduce the incidence of injury. Advise coaches of flexibility, strengthening, and conditioning programs to help prevent injuries and optimize performance. Provide immediate care of athletic injuries and refer the athlete to medical facilities when necessary. Design and supervise rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries under the direction of a referring physician. Keep medical histories and correspondence on file in the athletic training room. The athletic trainer will maintain accurate medical records for injuries, treatment, rehabilitation, physician referrals and maintain records of progress for all treatments. Be responsible for budgeting, ordering, and inventorying athletic training supplies through the Athletic Director. May serve as a consultant to the middle school athletic program by advising middle school athletics in the athletic training room on an appointment basis. May advise and assist with equipment purchases and fittings. Maintain open channels of communications with coaches, parents and physicians regarding athletic injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation. Arrange for emergency transportation (home events, practice and trips) and physical care when necessary. Make routine visits to the practice field and be present for hazardous play time (games, scrimmage, etc.). Be able to render immediate decisions on the playing status of an injured player in the absence of a physician. Review the WSSD emergency medical procedure with all coaches and athletes each season. Establish daily hours of operation for the athletic training room. Establish a working relationship with a designated team physician and community physicians. Direct and supervise the work of student trainer(s) from local universities or colleges. Responsibilities include coverage for fall, winter and spring sports including preseason and postseason play. The Athletic Trainer will be paid up to 8 hours (blue carded) per day for pre-season in August. Maintains the standards established by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
