Clinical Care & Injury Management
Prevention: Design and implement injury prevention programs, including flexibility, strength, and conditioning consultations. Evaluation: Conduct immediate on-field assessments of acute injuries and provide emergency first aid or CPR as needed. Rehabilitation: Develop and supervise individualized rehabilitation protocols for injured athletes to ensure a safe "return-to-play." Taping & Bracing: Apply protective or injury-preventative devices such as tape, bandages, and braces.
Administrative & District Oversight
Documentation: Maintain detailed and confidential medical records for all student-athletes using district-approved software (e.g., Rank One, DragonFly). Policy Development: Establish and enforce district-wide protocols for Concussion Management, Emergency Action Plans (EAP), and Exertional Heat Illness. Inventory Management: Budget for and maintain athletic training supplies and equipment across multiple campuses.
Communication & Education
Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact between coaches, parents, student-athletes, and physicians. Training: Provide annual safety training for coaching staff, including CPR/AED certification and heat illness awareness. Advisory: Consult with the Athletic Director on environmental safety conditions (e.g., lightning strikes or Wet Bulb Globe Temperature readings).
Qualifications & Requirements Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training (Master's degree preferred). Certification: Must be certified by the Board of Certification (BOC). Licensure: Current State Licensure (or eligibility to obtain it) and valid CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification. Skills: Proficiency in emergency medical response, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Other Major Responsibility Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Physical Demands Ability to stand/walk for extended periods during outdoor athletic events. Ability to lift or move medical equipment and assist in the transport of injured athletes (up to 50 lbs). Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, rain, cold). Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)] Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
