About the Role This role is part of a modernization effort to migrate from a Perl-based legacy system to Python-based services. The successful candidate will help build production-ready FastAPI services, define migration architecture, and strengthen CI/CD and infrastructure reliability. This is a high-autonomy, high-responsibility role with broad ownership of the modernization effort. Responsibilities Build production-ready FastAPI services. Define migration architecture and strategy to gradually replace the legacy monolith. Improve CI/CD maturity and implement robust deployment practices, including rollback-safe deployments. Strengthen infrastructure reliability and operational procedures. Document architectural decisions and maintain clear technical documentation. Collaborate with a small team to ensure smooth migration and production stability. Qualifications Strong Python experience with production systems. Proven experience with FastAPI in a production setting. Strong MySQL knowledge (schema design, indexing, query optimization). Comfortable in Linux (Ubuntu) command line. Experience with pytest for testing. GitHub and GitHub Actions CI/CD experience. Experience deploying behind Nginx or Apache. Docker experience. Professional use of VS Code or similar IDE. Understanding of API design and system decoupling. Nice-to-have: Ability to read Perl code and participate in modernization of monolithic systems. Experience with Google APIs, Stripe or other payment systems. Basic React experience (for internal admin tools); React is not a primary frontend requirement.
