Job Description The Technology Team at SWIB supports, implements, and develops industry‑leading systems and platforms to support SWIB’s diverse and complex set of investment portfolios and strategies. The team strives to be a trusted advisor and partner to the business, valuing the technology contribution to SWIB’s growth and success. We leverage technology to achieve SWIB’s business goals while keeping it aligned with the organization’s future direction and industry standards. Position Overview The Investment Systems Engineer leads the day‑to‑day technical work related to the business systems architecture supporting SWIB’s front and middle office functionality for both public and private markets. The senior role also leads the construction and maintenance of the processes used by Investment Systems Engineers and consultants. The role demands deep investment industry knowledge to analyze, design, model, prototype, test, and guide the implementation of systems utilized by SWIB. It partners with Operations and other Technology teams to ensure systems are appropriately designed, meet business needs, and are effectively supported over time. Essential Activities Work with Technology Owners, Business Owners, and Operations to research and implement new solutions and identify support needs. Analyze Investment Management, Operations, and Technology teams’ needs—both internal and external—to continuously meet business needs through design, development, or deployment of software (including upgrades or new programs). Serve as the architect/designer for investment management applications and systems, including creating test plans, scenarios, and procedures for new software. Identify gaps and risks in systems architecture, design, and projects, and recommend solutions to minimize these risks. Lead, facilitate, and coordinate software or solution architecture and design, including coding where applicable. Implement software testing (manual/automated or exploratory), evaluate results, document and report defects, and oversee maintenance and upgrades. Serve as subject‑matter expert on IT business applications to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues. Continue to mature knowledge of investment and asset management practices, both from textbooks and practical experience. Understand and forecast general and investment‑industry‑specific technology trends. Research new investment‑management technologies to advance SWIB’s capabilities and stay aware of industry trends, products, vendors, and services. Ideal Candidate Bachelor’s Degree required—preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Finance. At least 2 years of investment‑management industry experience. Knowledge of one or more third‑party ABOR/IBOR applications such as SimCorp Dimension, Eagle STAR/PACE, or equivalents, with a focus on public and/or private markets. Substantial knowledge of investment‑industry operational and functional capabilities. Substantial knowledge of investment‑industry strategies, processes, and technologies. Hands‑on experience with SimCorp Dimension is an added advantage. Experience with agile methodology is an added advantage. Ability to influence successful outcomes objectively and work cross‑functionally. Strong documentation and communication skills. Capacity to envision solutions, communicate them, and transform concepts into tangible outputs. Skill in explaining complex technology topics in layman’s terms. Detailed familiarity with common investment practices and securities. Ability to design technology solutions that solve business problems. Skill in translating business requirements into technology specifications and system designs that meet business needs.
