About the Role The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of the enterprise network infrastructure, ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity across on-premises and cloud environments. This role provides end-to-end ownership of network architecture with a strong focus on routing, switching, security, and availability. The Senior Network Engineer may supervise junior staff and provide technical leadership within the team. This position defines and evolves enterprise network standards and architecture, aligning network solutions across on-premises data centers, VMware-based environments, and Microsoft Azure to meet business and operational requirements.
Essential Functions
Perform the role of lead and may perform supervisory duties; assigning work, distributing workload, authorizing timesheets, approving vacation requests, and assisting in recruitment and evaluation processes
Ensure the health, reliability, and security of the Company’s local and wide‑area networks by monitoring and analyzing network hardware, software, utilization, and availability logs, taking corrective actions as required
Plan resource allocation and develop work plans for the network group
Manage multiple and simultaneous complex technology projects with a significant impact to the Company
Manage new services, business solutions, service delivery, and/or migration to new systems
Participate and contribute in the strategic plan for the Company’s enterprise network
Resolve escalated complex network system limitations and access problems for all enterprise systems
Review network policies and deliver recommendations based on current and future needs and industry best practices
Perform knowledge transfers among team members by preparing and maintaining documentation for networks, systems, processes, procedures, written instructions, and solutions to problems
Provide consultation to executive management
Design, implement, and support enterprise LAN/WAN, SD‑WAN, wireless, VPN, internet edge, and data center networking
Manage and optimize routing/switching infrastructure (BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP, QoS, multicast)
Administer enterprise firewalls, segmentation, and secure remote access solution
Lead network security initiatives aligned with zero trust architecture and cybersecurity best practices
Support cloud networking in Azure including ExpressRoute, VPN gateways, and hybrid connectivity
Maintain high availability and disaster recovery networking strategies
Perform packet captures, deep‑dive troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for critical outages
Maintain network monitoring, alerting, configuration backup, and performance management platforms
Manage network lifecycle activities including upgrades, patching, hardware refreshes, and capacity planning
Create and enforce network standards, diagrams, and operational documentation
Effectively oversee junior staff and vendors/suppliers
Regular professional development by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations
Regular and predictable attendance
Essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company‑designated office or field location
Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry‑specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable

Qualifications Enterprise Networking (CCNP‑level)
7+ years of enterprise network engineering experience
Strong understanding of:
Routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)
Switching technologies (VLANs, STP, trunking, EtherChannel)
IP subnetting and scalable network design
Experience supporting and troubleshooting multi‑site enterprise networks
Network Security
Solid understanding of core network security fundamentals
Hands‑on experience with firewall policy and rule management
Knowledge of network segmentation (DMZ, internal zones, guest networks)
Familiarity with VPN technologies (site‑to‑site and remote access)
Basic IDS/IPS concepts and troubleshooting
WAN / Enterprise Connectivity
Experience with WAN design and troubleshooting
Understanding of internet edge connectivity
Familiarity with load‑balancing concepts (hands‑on F5 not required)
Hybrid Networking (Critical)
Practical Azure networking experience, including:
VNets, subnets, NSGs
VPN Gateway or ExpressRoute fundamentals
Understanding of hybrid routing and on‑prem and cloud connectivity
VMware Networking
Understanding of virtual networking concepts:
vSwitches and distributed switches
Port groups and VLAN tagging
Ability to troubleshoot network issues within VMware environments
Operational Excellence
Strong troubleshooting skills using packet captures (Wireshark or similar)
Experience supporting production environments and participating in incident response
Ability to participate in an escalation and on‑call rotation
Preferred Qualifications Cloud (Azure)
Advanced Azure networking experience, including:
ExpressRoute design
Hub‑and‑spoke architectures
Azure Firewall, routing tables, UDRs
Automation & Tooling
Experience with network automation using Python or PowerShell
Monitoring & Observability
Familiarity with tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Dynatrace
Experience analyzing NetFlow / sFlow data
Advanced VMware / Datacenter
Experience with VMware NSX (if applicable)
Advanced vSphere networking troubleshooting
Data center switching experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree
Certifications preferred (CCNA/CCNP, Fortinet, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Competent understanding of the duties and responsibilities required of the System Engineer
Knowledge of principles and practices of management and supervision
Broad multi-discipline skillset with extensive in-depth working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, networking standards, protocols, security, troubleshooting, virtualization tools (VMWare) and performance tuning, including developing, configuring, supporting, and optimizing networking hardware, software, telecommunications, and related technologies
Demonstrated ability in project management, contract management, network recovery, and storage practices/policies
Ability to create and evaluate system proposals and articulate cost‑benefit solutions
Detail‑oriented and self‑motivated, possessing strong judgment with excellent decision‑making skills and excellent analytical/organization/time management skills
Effective interpersonal and written communication skills; ability to communicate highly technical information to both technical and non‑technical personnel

Salary: $120,000 – $135,000 per year, commensurate with experience, paid weekly
