RN - PCU/Step Down This is a travel position at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, part of RWJBarnabas Health, the largest healthcare system in New Jersey. The position is for a PCU/Step Down Registered Nurse (RN) with a start date of June 29, 2026, and an end date of September 28, 2026, for a duration of 13 weeks. The shift is 07:00 AM to 07:30 PM, three days per week for a total of 36 hours per week. Required Licenses and Certifications:
Active NJ or Compact license Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
Required Experience and Clinical Skills:
Experience Required: 2 years; Trauma Level II Experience (Level I and Teaching Hospital highly preferred) Accessing/managing ports; arterial, central, and peripheral line care/management; PICC; phlebotomy; starting and maintaining IVs; heparin protocols; PCA; insulin drips (including titration); cardiac and vasoactive drips (management and titration) Telemetry (unit and remote); dysrhythmia interpretation and management; post-cardiac procedures (angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, surgery); TAVR; TR Band; pain management Ventilator care; CPAP/BiPAP; HFNC; trach care; oxygen delivery systems; ABG interpretation; suctioning; feeding tube care and management; Chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac); surgical drains; lumbar drain; LVAD/RVAD (HARD STOP) Neuro/Complex: Frequent neuro checks (every 2 hours); stable stroke; acute traumatic brain injury; intracranial hemorrhage; cervical spinal cord injury; peri-operative neurosurgical patients; chronic neurologic disorders; heart, lung, and kidney transplant management; pulmonary hypertension patients; drug ingestion/overdose requiring neuro, pulmonary, or cardiac monitoring General: Gastrointestinal disorders (stable GI bleed, acute liver failure requiring octreotide); isolation precautions; wound care/Wound Vac; ostomy care; turning/positioning
Scheduling Details and Charting:
Charting: EPIC experience required Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend RTO, Block & Scheduling Requests: Priority given to submits with a screenshot confirming RTO and schedule requests. No requests will be approved after offer. Call Off Policy: Facility is allowed to call off 1 shift per 2 weeks. Holiday Requirement: Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays, per unit needs
Unit Details and Floating:
Ratios: 1:4. Adults 18+ with multi-organ issues, heart failure, hypertension, cardiac rhythm disorders, trach/vented patients, LVAD patients, pulmonary HTN requiring IV prostacyclin Scrubs: Navy Blue Floating: Candidates must float within their skillset without exception. Ratios vary based on census, patient acuity, and staffing.
