About
Demonstrates competence in the clinical skills required for patient care. Accurately identifies the patient using standardized patient identification protocols and resolves any discrepancies prior to caring for patient. Performs and records diagnostic measures, treatment and procedures, as determined by skills training and validation (i.e., vital signs, 12 Lead EKG, phlebotomy, I.V. catheter insertion, splinting, specimen collection, immobilization by backboard, extrication from vehicles) in accordance with established policies and procedures. Observes patients, performs hourly rounds for condition change, reports observations, conditions, and problems of patients to the licensed nurse. Accurately sorts patients according to severity upon arrival, initiating and notifying the Medical Director/R.N. of patient requiring immediate attention. Accompanies and monitors high risk patients out of the department as delegated. Repeats vital signs according to policy, records all aspects of care administered, including height, weight, allergies, and medication lists, in the patient medical record according to established procedures. Maintains and accurately processes/updates patient records (e.g., recording of patient's medication history, obtaining lab specimens, identification labels, patients' valuables, etc.) assuring all forms are properly identified with the patient's name and contents are filed correctly. Coordinates the patient workflow, problem-solves, directs other techs, manages several ongoing priorities with minimal supervision. Maintains an orderly environment that facilitates access to supplies, equipment, and resource information. Assists with inventory, monitoring and ordering supplies and medical equipment to maintain par levels. Functions as a team member, responding willingly to colleagues needs for assistance and partnership. Follows all safety rules on the job, reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally when priorities and/or the patient's condition changes. Ability to work independently by guiding oneself with little or no supervision in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, providing excellent, polished patient interaction skills with patients verbally and in writing. Ability to prioritize, maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow. Demonstrates basic computer skills to perform data entry and maintain records. Demonstrates competence in performance of echocardiographic studies. Demonstrates basic understanding of acquired images. Ability to perform quality and complete echocardiogram studies. Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment.
Education and Experience
Graduate from a Paramedic training program. Licensed Paramedic. Licensure must remain active and unencumbered while employed. One (1) year hospital/surgery center experience. Basic Life Support (BLS) certified. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified.
