Description: Floating between departments and/or local locations within a specified radius is required. Evaluates patients regarding the application of various therapeutic interventions for rehabilitation of physical and developmental disorders. Must possess basic understanding of the rules and regulations of the specific setting. Evaluates and treats patients utilizing a wide variety of therapeutic interventions for rehabilitation of physical function and developmental disorders. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the patient lifespan. Oversees and ensures a comprehensive rehabilitation program designed to meet the physical, psychosocial, and immediate environmental well-being of the patient. Promotes patient and caregiver self-determination by optimizing utilization of outside resources to achieve the highest level of independence. Coordinates and communicates with various disciplines or services involved in patient care. Coordinates efforts toward discharge goals established during the initial evaluation and throughout the episode of care. Acts as a patient advocate. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Settings may include inpatient, outpatient, long-term care, community-based care, and home health care. For pediatric physical therapists, the following additional responsibilities apply: Evaluates and treats infants, children, and adolescents regarding various health conditions, focusing on motor development, strength, range of motion, endurance, balance, coordination, and gait. Interviews children and family members, using physical examination techniques to diagnose movement disorders. Has the ability to evaluate and treat patients 18 years and older, and may float to adult units if needed based on pediatric patient census fluctuations. Evaluates and treats pediatric patients from birth to 18 years old regarding the application of various therapeutic interventions for rehabilitation of physical function and developmental disorders.
