About
Lead and promote a proactive, "safety-first" culture across the facility, influencing behaviors, engagement, and outcomes Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations (OSHA, NFPA, etc.) Own and manage all site safety programs, including policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives Establish, track, and report safety KPIs (near misses, recordables, first aid incidents, lost-time incidents, etc.) Conduct trend analysis of safety data to identify risks and recommend corrective and preventive actions Lead safety training programs, including new hire orientation, annual training, contractor safety, and safety committee initiatives Facilitate and participate in root cause investigations for incidents and near misses Oversee Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program compliance, including procedures, training, and system improvements Perform periodic audits (arc flash, fire systems, compliance assessments) and ensure corrective actions are implemented Support industrial hygiene monitoring and ensure appropriate controls are in place Participate in and support emergency response and rescue team training initiatives Review Management of Change (MOC) processes for safety impacts related to facility modifications Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to resolve safety challenges and drive improvements Maintain an active field presence to monitor evolving work conditions and reinforce safe work practices Manage safety-related budgets and support strategic safety planning initiatives Support work planning processes to ensure safety is integrated into daily operations Ensure compliance with facility fire protection systems, inspections, and reporting requirements Perform additional duties as assigned by plant leadership RequirementsRequired:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Management, Safety Technology, or related field (or CSP certification) Minimum 5 years of safety experience in a power plant or heavy industrial environment Strong working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA standards Experience supporting safety programs in operations and/or maintenance settings Proven ability to lead initiatives, influence others, and drive cultural change Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) Preferred:
Experience in power generation (coal or thermal generation highly preferred) Background supporting both operations and maintenance teams Familiarity with systems such as Asset Suite, GPI, MSI, or similar platforms Additional Requirements
Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support plant operations Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Demonstrated self-motivation and accountability in driving safety improvements Physical Requirements
Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces. Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear. Working near high-voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols. Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment. Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying. Exposure to extreme heat and cold. Participation in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing. Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
