Description: Under the direction of licensed nursing personnel, performs direct and indirect designated resident care within the scope of practice defined by certification. The Certified Nurse Assistant must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development across the lifespan. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Provides care needed by the adult and geriatric patient group.
Resident's activities of daily living (ADLs) needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures within a safe and comfortable environment. This includes hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence/catheter care, elimination/toileting needs, turning/positioning, and skin care. Documentation must be completed per protocol.
Resident's environment and safety are maintained as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. This includes answering call lights and alarms promptly, provision of safety mats and low beds, restraint use under the direction of nursing, and maintaining cleanliness of the unit. Behavior and fall prevention, appropriate use of, and monitoring for malfunctioning equipment must be ensured. Documentation must be completed per protocol.
Resident's nutritional needs will be met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. This includes meal delivery, tray preparation, adaptive equipment, feeding, and nourishments. Resident's preferences and choices shall be honored. Documentation must be completed per protocol.
Resident's rehabilitative needs are met as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures. This includes range of motion exercises, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and use of assistive devices. Documentation must be completed per protocol.
Resident's rights, refusals, and concerns are reported to the Charge and/or Supervising Nurse in a timely manner in accordance with policies and procedures. Changes in resident's physical, emotional, and psychosocial status are identified and reported to the Charge Nurse promptly. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated. Required tasks involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.
