As a Speech Language Pathologist in the beautiful coastal city of Virginia Beach, you'll have the invaluable opportunity to help individuals overcome communication and swallowing challenges. You will be pivotal in fostering growth, independence, and connection as you guide children mastering their first words and seniors striving to regain their abilities. This role enables you to work with a diverse population spanning all ages, blending outpatient therapy with occasional inpatient responsibilities. Whether your passion lies in pediatric language development, working with adults with neurogenic disorders, or aiding geriatric clients, this position offers both fulfillment and flexibility. Create tailored treatment plans that respond to both immediate and ongoing communication, cognitive, or swallowing challenges. Implement individualized speech therapy sessions addressing language, fluency, voice, and swallowing considerations. Engage with a multidisciplinary team, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and families, to ensure a unified treatment approach. Provide education for patients and families to enhance therapeutic progression between sessions. Occasionally support inpatient evaluations and interventions to maintain comprehensive care throughout the rehabilitation timeline. Document treatment sessions accurately and promptly, adhering to all state, federal, and organizational policies. Commit to ongoing professional development to stay at the forefront of speech-language pathology practices. Education
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an approved institution. A completed Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) is required if you're not yet ASHA-certified. Certifications
State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be acquired within the first month of employment. Skills
Strong understanding of evidence-based methods applicable to all ages, focused on both developmental and acquired speech and swallowing disorders. Excellent interpersonal skills to foster communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Capability to adapt therapeutic modalities catering to varying cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Robust clinical judgment paired with problem-solving capabilities. Familiarity with electronic medical records and effective documentation practices. Benefits
Attractive compensation reflective of experience level. Flexible scheduling options promoting a healthy work-life balance. Opportunities for specialization in pediatrics, adult neuro rehabilitation, or geriatric care. Plentiful paid time off (PTO) alongside holiday remuneration. Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans. Support for continuing education and professional growth. A collaborative workplace that values high-quality care and ongoing learning.
