Summary The Optometrist provides comprehensive primary eye care services in an academic medical center setting, supporting Baylor College of Medicine's clinical, educational and research missions. This role delivers high-quality optometric care to patients in our Baylor Medicine clinic. They collaborate closely with ophthalmologists and interdisciplinary care teams, and may contribute to teaching, clinical research, and quality improvement initiatives. Job DutiesPerform comprehensive eye examinations, including refraction, diagnosis, and management of ocular and vision conditions. Diagnose and manage refractive errors, binocular vision disorders, dry eye disease, ocular surface disease, and common ocular pathologies. Co-manage patients with ophthalmologists, including pre- and post-operative care as appropriate. Prescribe corrective lenses and therapeutic treatments within scope of licensure. Utilize diagnostic testing (to support clinical decision-making. Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record in compliance with BCM and regulatory standards. Participate in interdisciplinary care teams and case discussions. Support educational activities for medical students, residents, fellows, and trainees, as appropriate to appointment type. Minimum QualificationsDoctor of Optometry Current license as an Optometrist by the Texas Optometry Board Addidtional Skills Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and patient communication skills.
