Responsibilities*
Follows UM Health procedures and applicable safety guidelines for handling, labeling, preparing, fortifying, tracking, and delivering human milk, fortified human milk, and heat-pasteurized donor human milk.
Verifies recipes with feeding orders in the electronic health record to generate labels and production lists, and document required information. Follows recipes and directions for human milk and formula preparation/fortification. Delivers prepared products to patient rooms, adhering to safety precautions and using the appropriate patient identifiers. Maintains a clean and sanitary environment by following aseptic techniques, equipment cleaning procedures, temperature monitoring, sanitation documentation, and product safety requirements, including recall procedures when directed.
Collaborates with other healthcare disciplines, including registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs), in fulfilling requests from Milk Room. Communicate effectively with team members. Protects confidential patient information. Required Qualifications*
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift at least 15 pounds.
Desired Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition, dietetics, or a related field.
Knowledge of newborn and pediatric nutrition.
Experience with the safe handling, preparation, and fortification of human milk and infant formula.
Experience using aseptic technique.
Experience using an electronic health record to perform job functions.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
