About

Personal Care Assistant The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides direct support and assistance to individuals receiving services through the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). The PCA assists individuals with daily living activities, community integration, personal care, health and safety monitoring, and implementation of person-centered support plans while promoting dignity, independence, and choice. Personal Care Assistance
Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including:
Bathing and personal hygiene. Dressing and grooming. Toileting and incontinence care. Oral care. Mobility and transfers (as trained) Meal preparation and feeding assistance when needed.
Community Integration and Support
Support individuals in participating in community activities and social events. Encourage skill development and independence. Assist with shopping, appointments, recreational activities, and community outings as authorized in the service plan. Promote inclusion and meaningful participation in community life.
Health and Safety Monitoring
Observe and report changes in physical, emotional, or behavioral conditions. Follow established health, safety, and emergency procedures. Maintain a safe and clean environment. Immediately report incidents, injuries, accidents, abuse, neglect, exploitation, or unusual occurrences to supervisors according to agency policy.
Documentation and Compliance
Complete accurate and timely service documentation, including:
Visit notes. Daily activity records. Electronic visit verification (EVV) Incident reports. Required forms and logs.
Ensure documentation reflects services actually provided. Maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with HIPAA and agency policies.
Behavioral Support
Provide support consistent with individual service plans and behavioral support plans. Utilize positive behavior support techniques. Maintain professionalism during challenging situations. Report behavioral concerns and incidents promptly.
Professional Responsibilities
Arrive to scheduled shifts on time and remain for the assigned duration. Follow agency policies, procedures, and DBHDD standards. Attend required trainings, meetings, and continuing education. Maintain current certifications and qualifications required by the agency. Demonstrate respect, professionalism, and ethical conduct at all times.
