About
Transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas using wheelchairs, stretchers or beds, including patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips and special equipment. Transfer patients to and from beds, wheelchairs or stretchers. Transport patients during discharge to the hospital lobby. Ensure proper oxygen levels in tanks before transporting patients. Approach and help patients and visitors. Verify and confirm standard precautions and correct patient identification by comparing information from the pager and patient wristband to obtain the correct medical chart and verify proper mode of transportation. Disinfect and maintain equipment. Perform environmental and safety checks, identify malfunctioning equipment, document findings and report malfunctioning equipment. Move and deliver equipment and linen carts. Complete three months of on-the-job training to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures, patient and safety emergency procedures and proper body mechanics to safely move patients.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED (After selection and placement, requires three months on-the-job training and orientation to learn multiple hospital and clinic locations, special procedures and patient emergency and safety procedures, proper body mechanics necessary to safely move patients)
Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling of patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working with some exposure to communicable disease. Ability to move/transport up to or more than 100 pounds (lbs.). Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
