IT Security Analyst Associate

Location Athens Area.
Work Schedule 8am – 5pm; Monday – Friday.
Responsibilities
Monitor the UGA network for unauthorized traffic, vulnerabilities, and sensitive data stores and transmissions.
Remedy network vulnerabilities, secure network segments, and remove sensitive data in collaboration with UGA clients.
Consult with department IT support staff to assess the scope of incidents, advise on future steps to reduce security risk, and coordinate containment.
Participate in data collection and forensic examination of compromised machines.
Write and maintain scripts in PHP or Python to automate routine security functions.
Provide emergency response for critical systems and applications, including firewalls, IPS, and SIEM monitoring.
Respond to security incidents involving potential violations of laws and leaks; investigate email abuse requests through abuse@uga.edu and the Remedy system.
Monitor abuse queue, DMCA claims, and Open Records requests.
Install, configure, and maintain security tools on Linux and Windows systems.
Modify policies in firewalls and other network-based security tools; manage DNS provisioning.
Provide security awareness training to faculty, staff, and students; organize lectures and Q&A sessions.
Use security tools to assist in vulnerability assessments for clients.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of related experience.
Preferred: 3–5 years of IT experience with familiarity in networking principles.
Experience with security equipment (firewall, IPS, IDS, SIEM).
Knowledge of Linux operating systems.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as PHP, Python, or equivalent.
Strong customer service skills.
Physical Demands Occasional moving of computers.
Security & Background Checks Completed background investigation is required, including a criminal background check and verification of credentials and reference checks. For positions with financial responsibilities, a satisfactory credit check is also required. Depending on responsibilities, a pre-employment drug test may be required.
