About
Address students' language, voice, fluency, articulation, or hearing needs through speech therapy. Conduct screenings and/or evaluations of the student. Evaluation includes standardized test results, parent conference and contact and collaboration with all other private professional persons or agencies which contribute to the total evaluation. Delivers direct service interventions and monitors student progress in pre-referral interventions. Provides leadership and serves as a professional member of the IEP team. Participates in placement, follow up decisions and development of an appropriate individual educational plan (IEP) Reevaluates student with speech and language needs on a regular basis (minimally every three years) to determine appropriateness of placement and remediation strategies, and to help in the determination of on-going eligibility. Participates in development, management, and evaluation of Yu Ming's speech and language program and consults with staff regarding other special education services and supports. Monitors and ensures educational benefit (FAPE) for students with identified speech and language needs. Serves as a resource to staff, students, and/or families for specialized speech and language services. Confers with the Education Specialist to coordinate and implement specialized speech and language services. Works cooperatively with administrators and other personnel to ensure compliance with special education laws and procedures. Designs and implements ongoing in-service programs for counselors, teachers, parents, guardians, administrators, and other professional staff. Makes presentations to and consults with school staff, parent/teacher organizations, student study teams, service groups, etc., concerning speech and language development of children. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
B.A. or B.S. Valid California Pupil Personnel Services credential authorizing holder to provide students with speech and language therapy. Knowledge of:
Speech and language pathologist duties and responsibilities Applicable State and Federal laws relating to general and special education Various forms of speech and language tests and assessments
Superb interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, colleagues and families Flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic, creative and start-up learning environment
Preferred
Master's degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution with specialization in speech, language, speech-pathology, language development, etc. Experience working with students having a Moderate/Severe disability Experience working with students with limited verbal capacity Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a solutions-oriented attitude
Time Commitment 185-day school year, 8 student-free professional development days for collaboration with colleagues. Common building hours are 8:00am-3:30pm Monday, 8:00am-4pm Tuesday-Friday. Expected hours are.5 FTE. Compensation $85,000–$110,000 annually for full-time employment, based on years of experience. Compensation will be prorated for part-time roles based on hours worked.
