Surgical Technologists play an essential role in the operating room, working alongside surgeons and registered nurses to help deliver safe, high-quality patient care before, during and after surgical procedures. In this hands-on role, you will prepare sterile instruments and equipment, set up surgical tables, assist during procedures by passing instruments to the surgeon, and support the cleaning and sterilization process following surgery. Your attention to detail and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team help ensure efficient, seamless operative care. This position offers an exciting opportunity to build valuable experience in a fast-paced surgical environment while making a meaningful impact on patients and caregivers every day. As a vital member of the OR team, your support is critical to the success of each procedure. Caregivers must be able to float to Hillcrest Hospital as needed. This caregiver role is a day shift position with required on-call coverage. During the 3-month orientation period, the schedule is Monday-Friday, from 7:00am - 3:30pm The required on-call rotation includes:
Two call shifts per month (weeknight or weekend) One to two holidays per year
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN). Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs and equipment are available. Assists RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery. Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients. Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure. Participate in the intraoperative "timeout." Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and gives specimens to circulator for disposition.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Successful completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited through CCAAHEP or ABHES OR Certification as a Surgical Technologist (TS-C or CST) OR completion of a military Surgical Technology Program Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited Surgical Technology Program Scrubbing experience Familiarity with sterile environments and OR protocols Experience in patient care is a plus Documented training and clinical rotations
Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions of working irregular hours. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids. Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work
