Why you'll love this job: Responsible for leveraging cutting edge technology to solve business problems at American Airlines by participating in all phases of the development process from inception through transition, advocating the agile process and test-driven development, using object-oriented development tools to analyze, model, design, construct and test reusable objects, and making the codebase a better place to live and work. What you'll do: Collaborates with leaders, business analysts, project managers, IT architects, technical leads and other developers, along with internal customers, to understand requirements and develop needs according to business requirements Maintains and enhances existing enterprise services, applications, and platforms using domain driven design and test-driven development Troubleshoots and debugs complex issues; identifies and implements solutions Creates detailed project specifications, requirements, and estimates Researches and implements new technologies to enhance current processes, security, and performance Supports the development of coding standards and adheres to best practices and security guidelines Drive ownership and ongoing enhancement of our Backstage-based Internal Developer Platform, including developer portal experiences, service catalog integrations, and self-service workflows Define and establish "golden paths" that enable teams to build, deploy, and operate services with speed, consistency, and safety, reducing cognitive load and scaling best practices across the organization All you'll need for success: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training 3 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications in hosted production environments 3 years of professional, design, and open-source experience Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training 5 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience Airline Industry experience Experience working in or alongside platform engineering, developer productivity, or internal tooling teams Exposure to containerized or orchestrated environments (e.g., Kubernetes), with an emphasis on how platforms support developers, not infrastructure ownership Background in large scale or regulated enterprise environments is a plus Skills, Licenses & Certifications: Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: TypeScript, Python, Java Practical experience in AI-Augmented Engineering: Hands on experience leveraging AI to accelerate engineering workflows, including code development, test and documentation generation, design prototyping, and reducing operational overhead Familiarity with cloud platforms Azure and/or AWS; knowledge of CI/CD practices including source control, build automation, testing pipelines, and dependency management, with a focus on enabling developer self-service Strong experience designing API-centric systems with well-defined contracts, scalable abstractions, and reusable components; understands versioning, backward compatibility, and evolution of developer-facing interfaces Collaborative team player who contributes ideas, seeks feedback, and values diverse perspectives; able to articulate technical vision, support exploratory innovation, and promote mentorship and shared ownership What you'll get: Feel free to take advantage of all that American Airlines has to offer: Travel Perks: Ready to explore the world?
