Design Engineering Manager
SharkNinja is a global product design and technology company, with a diversified portfolio of 5-star rated lifestyle solutions that positively impact people's lives in homes around the world. Powered by two trusted, global brands, Shark and Ninja, the company has a proven track record of bringing disruptive innovation to market and developing one consumer product after another has allowed SharkNinja to enter multiple product categories, driving significant growth and market share gains. Headquartered in Needham, Massachusetts with more than 4,100 associates, the company's products are sold at key retailers, online and offline, and through distributors around the world. We are looking for a Design Engineering Manager to lead part of our growing New Product Development (NPD) team, helping build a new generation of innovative products under the Ninja brand. Based at our Needham, MA headquarters, you will bring technical substance and creative inspiration to our product creation process – driving technology and feasibility decisions from the front end of the roadmap all the way through to credible, market-ready solutions. Lead front-end product and engineering development, applying ideation and innovation techniques to shape and drive the Haircare product roadmap in collaboration with cross-functional PD, ID, Brand, and Test Kitchen teams across the US, UK, and China. Own the front-end technology and feasibility phase of the Motorized roadmap, championing complete system innovations that bridge physical (mechanical) and digital (sensors, software, batteries, connectivity) disciplines. Drive ideas to conclusion early through functional proof-of-concept (POC) rigs – embracing a "fail fast" methodology to surface issues before they reach the back-end NPD implementation team. Build and test prototypes hands-on, taking a pragmatic approach to both short- and long-term project exploration. Communicate design concepts quickly and persuasively through sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models, and working prototypes. Conduct design and engineering studies – independently and within teams – to resolve technical and consumer-experience challenges at every stage of development. Partner with our global Advanced Design (AD) and Consumer Insights (CI) teams to ensure consumer-focused sensibilities drive direction and are preserved throughout development, delivering 5-star products. Coach and actively support team members at all levels, with particular investment in the growth of junior colleagues. Balance and prioritize multiple concurrent project workflows while meeting fast-paced schedules and deadlines. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design with a focus on engineering principles. 5–10 years of proven experience in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Product Design environments. Hands-on experience with injection-molded plastic and sheet metal manufacturing processes. Proficient in SolidWorks or Creo CAD software. Demonstrated ability to identify, solve, implement, and verify technical solutions – both independently and as part of a team. Comfortable working in a lab setting: building prototypes, conducting product testing, and documenting findings and next steps. Broad appreciation for the interplay between mechanical, electrical, and software engineering principles. Ability to motivate a team to autonomously identify and deliver technical solutions. Growth mindset: proactively seeks coaching, invests in continuous learning, and exercises sound judgment in prioritizing problems. Entrepreneurial spirit: not afraid to fail fast, learn quickly, and pivot with a positive attitude. Flexible and collaborative, with a genuine drive to improve processes and working culture through participation in cross-functional initiatives. Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design. Prior experience in the consumer goods or household appliance industry.
