Student Safety Assessment & Management Coordinator The coordinator works at the intersection of safety and mental health, ensuring that student concerns are addressed early, consistently, and with appropriate intervention. This role is central to the district's approach to school safety – focusing on identifying, assessing, and responding to student threats, suicide risk, and concerning behaviors. This position involves regular exposure to sensitive and high-impact situations involving student safety, mental health crises, and behavioral concerns. The ideal candidate demonstrates emotional resilience, sound judgement, and the ability to remain steady and professional in complex and, at times, high-pressure circumstances. Qualifications – Education & Experience:
Master's degree in education, psychology, social work, criminal justice, or related field Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in school safety, student services, counseling, or crisis response within a K-12 setting. Extensive knowledge of behavioral threat assessment, student behavior, and mental health. Deep familiarity with the NTAC threat assessment model is required; certification as an NTAC trainer is highly desirable. Proven experience with suicide prevention, intervention frameworks, and a background in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. BCBA certification or strong experience in Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) CPI trained and strong background in de-escalation skills Strong interpersonal, investigative, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage sensitive situations with high levels of professionalism and discretion. Sound judgement and decision-making under pressure. Strong collaboration and communication skills. Ability to build trust across diverse stakeholder groups. Attention to detail and strong documentation practices. Commitment to student safety, well-being, and early intervention.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead and support the district's Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) and Suicide Risk Assessment process across all schools. Assist school teams in assessing and responding to threats concerning behaviors, and students in crisis in collaboration with the MTSS Mental Health Team. Support safety planning and care management plans in collaboration with school and district mental health staff. Assist the District Mental Health Coordinator with school-level re-entry meetings to ensure a seamless and safe transition for students, prioritizing both mental health resources and school-wide safety standards. Support teams with individualized safety plans and with considering the unique needs of students with disabilities in relation to school safety. Support the training of district-wide FBA and BIP practices and consult/collaborate with building staff on Tier 3 PBIS including implementing effective FBA/BIPs. Ensure consistent implementation of district protocols, documentation, and legal compliance related to safety assessments. Collaboratively with the MTSS Mental Health Team and Director of School Safety, analyze incident and behavioral data to identify trends and inform prevention strategies. Support building teams in using their behavioral data to improve school-wide and student practices through the actions in their SIP. Collaborate with the MTSS Mental Health Team and Director of School Safety to deliver training to staff on threat assessment, suicide prevention, and recognizing concerning behavior and warning signs. Collaborate with administrators, mental health professionals, school resource officers, and community partners related to district/community safety and security. PREPaRE I and II team support, coordination, and training collaboratively with the MTSS Mental Health Team. Collaboratively with the MTSS Mental Health Team, support the onboarding of mental health staff with district process and protocols related to PREPaRE, CPI, FBA/BIP, BTAM, SRA as well as provide ongoing support, training and collaboration. Support teams with concerns and policies related to mandated reporting. Respond to urgent safety situations and crises as needed, which may occur during or outside of standard school hours. Maintain confidential records and prepare reports as needed. Maintain regular and predictable in-person attendance. Openly support and abide by all school board policies, legal procedures, and administrative regulations. Actively support and advance the vision and mission of Oxford Community Schools. Perform other duties as required.
Reports to: Director of School Safety; Director of Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Salary Range: $79,627 - $100,870; commensurate with education and experience.
