Intermediate Care Technician The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Program is a program designed to hire former military corpsmen, combat medics and medical technicians into positions at VA Medical Centers as an integral part of the medical team. This Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) position is with the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) Service within the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advanced technician for PACT patients who are present for treatment. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Performing ongoing patient care duties in a critical care setting under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, licensed independent provider (LIP), and/or advanced practice provider (APP) assigned. Communicating effectively with their supervising physicians, licensed independent provider (LIP), and advanced practice provider (APP) to provide collaborative, timely and appropriate patient care. Performing observation-based screening and collecting patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations in a clinical care setting. Assisting critical care licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations. Operating specialized medical equipment. Performing specimen collection. Responding to medical emergencies on the facility grounds, and sometimes encounters situations which may be life threatening as part of the Rapid Response Team (RRT), Code Blue, or medical transport team. Performs other duties as assigned within the training and competencies of the role.

Position Description/PD#: Intermediate Care Technician - Direct Hire Authority/ PD99968S Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized ICT Program Background: Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) - ICTs are advanced unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) who have graduated from intensive specialized military medical training programs and served as combat medics, medical technicians, and corpsman. They possess fundamental knowledge, background and experience in emergency medicine, critical care, medical readiness, field medicine, bedside care, and primary care. This role provides a higher level of clinical support to both nursing and medicine. ICT Program Mission and Vision - The ICT Program is designed to (1) allow ICTs to function in a health care role commensurate with their military education, training and experience without the need for a license or additional credential; (2) enhance quality of care and patient satisfaction among Veterans in multiple clinical settings and; (3) enable a path for ICTs to attain licensed professional roles through advanced education and clinical opportunities for long-term VA employment.
