Operations Manager

Olive Recruiting is seeking an Operations Manager for our client in Houston, TX. This role is responsible for leading daily freight forwarding and logistics operations while ensuring shipments are executed with speed, accuracy, proactive communication, and a customer-first mindset. Responsibilities encompass domestic and international freight operations, expedited transportation, warehousing, customer service, carrier management, operational performance, and team leadership.

Schedule: In-Office

Compensation: Competitive base salary, bonus opportunity, comprehensive benefits package, PTO, and 401(k), depending on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily freight forwarding and logistics operations, including shipment planning, routing, dispatch coordination, customer service, warehouse activities, pickup and delivery execution, and issue resolution.
  • Oversee domestic and international transportation services, including air freight, ocean freight, expedited ground, LTL, truckload, hot shot, white glove, trade show, and specialized freight movements.
  • Lead and develop operations personnel through coaching, training, scheduling, performance management, and accountability initiatives.
  • Monitor shipment milestones, appointment scheduling, POD collection, status updates, exception management, and customer communications to ensure service excellence.
  • Collaborate with sales, customer service, accounting, warehouse teams, carriers, agents, and vendors to deliver cost-effective transportation solutions while maintaining service quality.
  • Review operational reports, KPIs, service failures, claims, accessorial charges, storage costs, redelivery fees, and profitability metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support quoting activities, carrier selection, routing decisions, pricing reviews, and operational feasibility assessments for customer solutions.
  • Develop and maintain strong carrier, agent, and vendor relationships to ensure capacity availability, service consistency, and cost control.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, communication, customer satisfaction, profitability, and service performance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, transportation regulations, customer-specific requirements, documentation standards, and safety practices.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in freight forwarding, transportation, logistics, station operations, dispatch, warehouse operations, or a related field.
  • Prior leadership experience managing operations teams and overseeing day-to-day freight movement activities.
  • Strong knowledge of air freight, expedited transportation, domestic trucking, LTL, truckload, local pickup and delivery, shipment visibility, and time-definite transportation services.
  • Experience working directly with customers, carriers, agents, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve service issues and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and transportation management systems (TMS), freight forwarding software, CRM platforms, or related logistics systems.
