DescriptionPosition Summary: Responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Essential Job Functions:
Perform all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
Perform high-level disinfection according to department policy.
Take call according to department call schedule after the close of regular scheduled hours.
Responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures and quality controls.
Organize daily work schedule and perform related clerical duties as required.
Coordinate work schedule with departmental manager and/or scheduling desk to assure workload coverage.
Complete all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes checking with the nurses' station and ER.
Report equipment failures to the appropriate supervisor or staff member.
Maintain ultrasound equipment, work area, and maintain adequate supplies.
Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify and adapt procedures as appropriate.
Use independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
Prepare preliminary reports and contact referring physicians when required.
Analyze sonograms and medical history and communicate findings to the appropriate physician.
Coordinate with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
Address problems of patient care as they arise and make decisions to appropriately resolve the problems.
Assume responsibility for the safety, mental, and physical well-being of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.
Participate in training and education as appropriate.
Establish and maintain ethical working relationships and good rapport with all interrelating hospitals, referral or commercial agencies.
Assist in other radiology modalities as needed Education & Experience:
Associates of Applied Science degree in Diagnostics Medical Sonography or equivalent hospital training.
Two years of experience under a Board Certified Radiologist. Certification/Licensure:
Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostics Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty or specialties area.
Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty or specialties as appropriate. Current BLS certification.
