Job SummaryThe Senior Oncology Specialty Pharmacist is an advanced practitioner in oncology area of pharmacy practice, providing drug therapy and pharmacological consultation on the most complex patients and overseeing the competency level of other pharmacy staff in their designated specialty. The Senior Oncology Specialty Pharmacist is responsible for directing and maintaining drug therapy across the continuum of care, providing focused monitoring in the areas of cancer therapy, supportive care/symptom management, pain management, assessment and oversight of medication adherence and procurement. In addition, the incumbent is responsible to manage drug costs in his or her designated therapeutic area(s) and to facilitate cost containment: a) collects and presents data to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee on the use of P&T restricted medications, b) works with the P&T Coordinator to develop and conduct drug use evaluations, c) works with the clinical coordinator in managing drug costs. The Senior Oncology Specialty Pharmacist also participates in medical staff committees as requested. The Senior Oncology Specialty Pharmacist also participates in general clinical patient care activities and provides support to various pharmacy areas as needed. Their responsibility is to provide quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to patients, employees and medical staff of UCDMC. They are an integral member of the health care team, responsible for drug therapy monitoring, drug distribution, drug information, precepting pharmacy students and residents, conducting clinical research, participation in Department and Hospital Committees, task forces and workgroups, and foster excellent interdepartmental relationships. #CA-SB Apply By Date 6/12/2026 by 11:59pm, *REPOSTED, interviews may occur at anytime.
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an Accredited Council for Pharmacy Education certified school of pharmacy, or equivalent training Completion of Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) training at an American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) Accredited program, or 3 years of relevant work experience Completion of PGY2 Oncology Residency, or equivalent experience (i.e., minimum of 3 years in 50% oncology clinical pharmacist position). Experience in working with and directing health care professionals. Experience in working with, directing and evaluating pharmacy residents and students. Ability to communicate well and make independent decisions to resolve minor problems as they arise. Ability to lead the work assigned to technicians and establish priorities of workflow. Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise. Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English. Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for clinic/department customers, to demonstrate an interested, understanding, compassionate manner, to maintain a courteous and calm demeanor, and to use a proactive approach to negotiate with and persuade others to take required action. Ability to maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry, or emotionally distressed. Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem, to identify the resources available to help solve the problem, to create and implement viable solutions, and to follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached. Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times. Comprehensive knowledge of hospital practice, chemotherapy and hazardous drugs compounding and control procedures. Ability to review and assess appropriateness/safety of physician orders for complex chemotherapy regimens. Ability to accurately perform pharmacy calculations. Working knowledge of regulations and safety requirements for safe handling, preparation and administration of hazardous drugs.
Preferred Qualifications
Board Certification in Oncology (BCOP) or other relevant specialty (e.g., Pediatrics, BCPP). Experience with EPIC BEACON or other CPOE format for chemotherapy orders.

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs. The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
