Job Summary The Director, Medical Group Operations ("Director") serves as the practice administrator for the outpatient medical practices of Southwest Health System ("Medical Group"). This Director works in a dyad leadership relationship with the Chief Medical Officer (or their delegate) to oversee the Medical Group operations. The Director leads the operational, quality, financial, and administrative functions of the Medical Group. The role ensures the Medical Group delivers high-quality, patient-centered care, operates efficiently, growth in patient access, coordination of care, and remains compliant with regulatory and organizational standards. The position plays a key role in preparing for and advancing the Medical Group toward value-based and alternative payment models through process redesign and alignment of clinical, operational, and financial strategies. Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum bachelor's degree. Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration or related field preferred Master's degree in healthcare administration (MHA), business administration (MBA) preferred. Prefer formal healthcare leadership training providing evidence of knowledge in outpatient clinic operations, finance and future payment models. One example is the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) certification.
License/Certification:
MGMA CMPE or ability to obtain within two years.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Applies the American College of Medical Practice Executives Body of Knowledge for Medical Practice Management effectively. Understanding of medical group operations, staffing models, and resource allocations. Understanding how medical group workflows integrate with hospital workflows. Application of Lean methodology, quality improvement frameworks, and risk management practices. Develops and executes departmental vision, goals, and initiatives that are consistent with the overall objectives established for Southwest Health System. Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with patients, family members, staff, leadership, stakeholders, and community members. Ability to lead and inspire teams, mentor staff, and foster a positive work culture. Ability to manage multiple initiatives and respond flexibly to evolving operational needs. Demonstrates a high degree of integrity and sound, ethical judgment. Attention to detail, managing deadlines, tracking projects, and maintaining organized systems. Ability to make sound, timely decisions, and find solutions, including through participation on interdisciplinary teams. Advanced proficiency in electronic health records, scheduling software, presentation tools, virtual meeting platforms, and project management software. Maintain knowledge of federal and state reimbursement policy changes and disseminate relevant updates to providers and leaders.
