Position Functions
* Administer prescribed treatment and medication to inmate/client at any Sheriff's Office facility as needed and medically required within licensing authorization.
* Ensure medications are properly stored, ordered, and available for nursing staff.
* Push a medication cart between locations within the Jail.
* Recognize and report the signs and symptoms of a potentially emergent situation.
* Maintain accountability and properly document all medication administered to facility specifications.
* Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of medical records.
* Attend meetings and trainings as required.
* Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
* Maintain compliance with all county policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required:
* High School Diploma or GED.
* At least 18 years of age.
* Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.
* Preference will be given to those with healthcare experience.
* Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug screen.
* Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid South Dakota Driver's License within 90 days of moving to South Dakota.
Additional Information
Working Environment:
* Work is typically performed indoors in a correctional facility. This is a potentially volatile environment with high accountability.
* This position may be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals.
* Work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
* This position will include close interaction with inmates.
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
* Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
* Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
* Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and in person.
* Ability to push/pull a medication cart for up to four hours per shift. When fully loaded, the medication cart weighs approximately 200 pounds.
* Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, crouch and lift light objects.
* Must be able to enter data and operate a phone.
* Ability to respond to emergent situations, including the ability to run, restrain aggressive or suicidal individuals and manipulate restraint tools.
