Special Projects is the advanced engineering division of the Aston Martin Racing Performance Group. AMPT Special Projects focuses on applying F1-derived high-performance engineering, innovation, technical expertise and breakthrough technologies to deliver high-performance engineering projects outside of Formula One. Our portfolio spans automotive and non-automotive sectors, and we seek driven, world-class engineers to join us in solving complex challenges beyond the racetrack.
Responsibilities
lead the design and development of high-performance composite components, taking ownership of complex projects from concept through to production
lead end-to-end design of composite components, including packaging, surfacing, tooling, and laminate specifications
take ownership of large-scale design projects, ensuring timely delivery, budget control, and adherence to technical specifications
approve and check work of other engineers, support team development and performance reviews
collaborate with structures, aerodynamics, and production teams to ensure technical excellence and integrity
resolve complex engineering challenges arising during design, testing, or manufacturing
contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and system/process development
support recruitment, mentoring of early-career engineers, and onboarding of new team members
ensure compliance with regulatory and safety requirements, while promoting best practices across the team
represent engineering work confidently to management and stakeholders, including directors
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Degree in Automotive, Mechanical, Motorsport Engineering or similar
Significant experience in Formula 1, top-tier motorsport, or advanced technology environments
Expert user of CATIA V6/3DX, including surfacing and solid modelling
Strong understanding of GD&T, lightweight structural design, composite materials, and tooling techniques
Experience in fastener selection, load path design, and composite manufacturing methods
Effective communicator with a leadership mindset and a collaborative approach
Proven ability to lead by example and deliver high-quality results to deadlines
Skilled in Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Project, Power BI)
Demonstrated leadership experience, mentoring capabilities, and ability to deliver strategic updates to senior stakeholders
Some travel may be required to meet project and company needs. Flexibility, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence are essential
