Job Description Square’s Developer Platform connects sellers with third‑party solutions and enables developers to build upon and integrate with the Square ecosystem. This role focuses on growing the platform by making it easier for merchants to connect to integrations and building developer‑facing capabilities.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to design, build, and iterate on world‑class product experiences via microservices, APIs and web apps.
Design, implement, maintain and own developer‑facing surfaces that help external developers build reliable products for Square merchants.
Participate in the ongoing design and architecture of our evolving developer platform and services.
Help shape product direction, roadmap, and priorities.
Own the entire feature lifecycle—API design, implementation, automated testing, rollout.
Maintain high engineering and ethical standards to ensure platform security and customer trust.
Mentor and guide teammates, fostering pragmatic engineering decisions and quality design.
Qualifications
5+ years of relevant software development experience (or equivalent academic experience).
Strong ownership and execution skills focused on ROI.
Proficiency in at least one server‑side language and eagerness to learn others.
Ability to adapt to various product stages—from rapid prototyping to long‑term systems.
Demonstrated ability to write readable, pragmatic code.
Experience in providing technical mentorship and guidance.
Excellent communication skills and cross‑functional collaboration.
Appreciation for how software impacts customer experience.
