Role Summary: We are seeking a talented and passionate Senior, Software Engineer (Backend) for our team. You will be part of the Catalog Spec Engineering team and will be responsible for developing high‑performance and scalable catalog services that meet the needs of millions of Walmart customers.
About the Team: Join the innovative Walmart Catalog team, where creativity and technological innovation drive success. We specialize in enhancing seller and supplier experiences in setting up their catalog and managing the catalog platform. Our tech stack includes Java for backend services. As a member of this fast‑moving and highly entrepreneurial team, you’ll independently handle high‑impact, critical software/systems monitoring issues, troubleshoot business and production issues, and contribute to best‑in‑class methodologies that impact business across Walmart.
What You’ll Do
Design and develop highly scalable services and solve complex software system problems using state‑of‑the‑art technology, enhancing the Walmart catalog and partner experience.
Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information and engaging support teams to resolve issues.
Perform root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences of issues and ensure compliance with Walmart code of conduct.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, ensuring compliance with Walmart code of conduct.
Work in an agile environment, adhering to best practices and collaborating with teams to deliver results.
Stay up to date with the latest GenAI trends and technologies and contribute to the development of innovative solutions that improve the seller and supplier experience on our catalog platform.
Participate in medium‑to‑large‑scale, complex, cross‑functional projects ensuring on‑time delivery.
What You’ll Bring
6–8 years of experience as a senior software engineer.
Expert‑level knowledge of Java and experience building Java‑based backend systems.
Extensive experience building and implementing microservices and applications using Spring Boot and reactive frameworks such as Spring WebFlux.
Experience with internet‑scale distributed technologies (e.g., Solr, Kafka, Memcache).
Strong understanding of JEE components, multithreading, and networking.
Extensive knowledge of offline storage, caching, and performance tuning.
Experience with cloud‑based solutions and hands‑on experience with CI/CD development environments/tools, including Git, Maven, and Jenkins.
Strong understanding of CS fundamentals, microservices, data structures, algorithms, and problem solving.
Experience working with generated AI/ML technologies.
Experience with NoSQL databases such as Cosmos DB and Cassandra and ability to design and implement scalable data models.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 – $234,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include stock.
Minimum Qualifications Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year’s experience in software engineering or related area. We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
