*Position Summary*
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on *Lead Broadband Operations Engineer* to support and optimize our growing broadband network. This role is responsible for the performance, reliability, and expansion of all physical plant infrastructure, including HFC, fiber, headend systems, and access technologies.
The ideal candidate combines strong field experience with network engineering knowledge and can operate independently while supporting and mentoring field teams, while also ensuring high-quality customer installations and service delivery.
*Key Responsibilities*
*Network Operations & Performance*
* Maintain and optimize broadband network performance across:
* HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) infrastructure
* Fiber (FTTP) systems
* Headend and satellite facilities
* CMTS and DOCSIS platforms (e.g., *Casa Systems, Cisco, Arris PHY/R-PHY architectures*)
* Diagnose and resolve complex network and service issues across physical and logical layers
* Monitor system performance and implement improvements to enhance reliability and capacity
*Plant Engineering & Network Design*
* Participate in the evaluation, selection, and deployment of:
* CMTS platforms (*Casa, Cisco, Arris PHY solutions*)
* Routers and switches (*Cisco*)
* FTTP/GPON infrastructure (*Calix*)
* Provisioning systems and access platforms
* Assist in network design, expansion planning, and capacity upgrades in a rapidly growing service area
* Recommend and implement enhancements to improve service delivery and scalability
*Provisioning & Systems Management*
* Support and maintain DOCSIS provisioning systems, including:
* Cable modem configurations
* DHCP, TFTP, and related provisioning workflows
* Assist in development and optimization of provisioning and service activation processes
*Field Operations, Physical Plant, and Customer Installations*
* Perform hands-on work with:
* Coaxial and fiber plant infrastructure
* Test equipment (signal meters, OTDRs, etc.)
* Network and customer premise equipment (CPE)
* Install, configure, and troubleshoot equipment from vendors such as:
* *Cisco (routing & switching)*
* *Calix (OLT/ONT fiber systems)*
* *Casa, Cisco, and Arris PHY (CMTS/R-PHY platforms)*
* Perform and support *residential and business customer installations*, including:
* Broadband, video, and voice service activation
* Modem, router, and ONT installation and provisioning
* Signal level verification and service quality validation
* Resolve complex installation and service issues escalated from field technicians
* Ensure proper installation, maintenance, and security of company equipment
*Plant Maintenance & Optimization*
* Perform routine and corrective maintenance of HFC plant, including:
* *Amplifiers, line extenders, and mini-Bridgers*
* Conduct system *balancing and alignment* to maintain optimal signal levels and network performance
* Troubleshoot and mitigate:
* Ingress and noise issues
* Signal degradation and plant impairments
* Support node segmentation, upgrades, and system optimization initiatives
* Utilize RF test equipment to verify and maintain plant performance standards
*Team Support & Leadership*
* Train and support installers and construction personnel
* Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance to field teams
* Establish and enforce best practices for:
* Customer installations
* Plant maintenance and balancing
* Service quality and safety
*Additional Duties*
* Participate in on-call rotations and respond to after-hours service issues
* Work extended hours or weekends as needed
* Perform other duties as assigned
*Required Qualifications*
* Minimum *5 years of experience* in broadband/network operations, including:
* CMTS systems (*Casa, Cisco, Arris PHY preferred*)
* DOCSIS environments
* Routing and switching (*Cisco preferred*)
* Provisioning systems
* Strong working knowledge of:
* HFC broadband architecture
* DOCSIS provisioning and cable modem configuration
* Demonstrated experience in:
* *Plant maintenance, amplifier setup, and system balancing*
* Customer installations and service activation
* Network troubleshooting and performance analysis
* Proficiency with RF test equipment and signal analysis
* Excellent:
* Communication skills (written and verbal)
* Analytical and problem-solving abilities
* Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
*Preferred Qualifications*
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
* Experience with:
* FTTP / GPON / XGS-PON systems (*Calix preferred*)
* Network design and capacity planning
* Familiarity with:
* IP networking (routing, switching, VLANs)
* Provisioning platforms and network monitoring tools
*Work Environment & Schedule*
* Full-time, on-site role
* Monday–Friday schedule with occasional Saturdays
* On-call rotation required
* Combination of field, headend, and office work, including *customer premises visits and plant maintenance activities*
Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
