Role Overview Principal Software Engineer - DevOps / Infrastructure (Onsite) – Sterling, VA. Responsible for designing and developing integrated simulation and training solutions for the Strategic Defense Solutions portfolio. Requires an active U.S. Secret clearance and regular on‑site presence. What You Will Do Support and develop automation solutions that enable teams to build and deploy code efficiently and consistently. Take ownership of the CI/CD pipeline, optimizing code integration and delivery of the simulation environment. Use troubleshooting skills to resolve issues with the build chain or CI/CD tools. Identify manual processes that can be automated and recommend strategy and improvements. Prior experience with automated testing as part of a CI/CD pipeline is required. Consider the organization’s entire CI/CD infrastructure when making changes and improvements. Mentor other engineers and solve critical technical problems with innovative solutions. Qualifications You Must Have: Typical requirement of a STEM degree with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years experience. Minimum Security Clearance: Active, transferable, U.S. government issued Secret clearance prior to start date. Strong problem‑solving skills and experience with troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with GitLab, Jira, Confluence, Nexus, Artifactory, and Splunk. Experience with automation frameworks such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet or similar. Proficiency in server‑side scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and PowerShell. Experience with virtual environments (VMware, Proxmox, etc.) and continuous integration within virtualized environments. Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, SAFe) and backlog management. Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VLANs) and experience configuring network devices or virtual networks. Experience with cloud IaaS/PaaS platforms (RedHat OpenShift, VMware, OpenStack, AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with microservices using RESTful APIs. Experience with Docker/Podman containers and Kubernetes orchestration. Experience with SQL, NoSQL databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MonetDB). Experience with JSON, XML, YAML, XSD. Proficiency in Linux and Windows environments. Experience refactoring legacy systems for cloud or virtual environments.
