Performs all essential duties and responsibilities listed for Paramedic. Performs advanced life support skills and provides and directs efficient and effective emergency medical care and life-saving treatments. Responds to requests for service whenever and wherever needed to include all times of day and all types of weather. Operates emergency vehicles and transports patients to appropriate medical facilities. Communicates effectively with necessary parties including coworkers, dispatch, hospitals, police and fire personnel. Provides patient advocacy and interagency teamwork. Completes appropriate patient care documentation and other reports. Performs daily inspections of all medical supplies and equipment in the ambulances and station, replacing when necessary. Ensures all equipment is ready to be used at any time to include but not limited to ambulances, monitors, stretchers and radios. Cleans and maintains equipment, vehicles and living quarters. Attends meetings as required. Participation in community outreach and public education events. Precepts students from EMT and Paramedic programs on their clinical rotations. Performs other administrative type duties as may be requested by the Supervisory staff. Assuring constant compliance with all EMS Operations according to the Schertz EMS Standard Operating Procedures, Schertz EMS Standard Medical Operating Protocols, City of Schertz Personnel Manual, rules and regulations, protocols of the South Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) and abiding by all rules and regulations of the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
Education and experience requirements:
A High School Degree or GED equivalent is required. One or more years in a 911 EMS system is preferred.
Certifications and licenses required:
Current certification as a State of Texas Paramedic is required, licensure is preferred. ACLS, PHTLS/ITLS, PALS/PEPP, and CPR certifications are preferred. A valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License is required.
