DescriptionPosition Summary The EMT provides essential prehospital emergency care and patient transportation across Converse County, including Douglas, Glenrock, and surrounding rural areas. Working as part of a team under the direction of a licensed Paramedic or EMS Medical Director, the EMT assesses, stabilizes, and transports patients in a safe, compassionate, and professional manner. The role requires flexibility, strong clinical skills, and the ability to work independently in a rural setting. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls promptly and professionally. Assess patient condition, gather medical history, and provide appropriate prehospital care within the scope of practice for EMT-B, EMT-I, or EMT-A level. Perform basic and intermediate life support interventions as authorized, including airway management, CPR, bleeding control, splinting, oxygen therapy, and administration of approved medications. Safely operate ambulances and other emergency vehicles under varying weather and road conditions. Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, families, dispatch personnel, law enforcement, fire departments, and hospital staff. Assist Paramedics with advanced interventions when required. Accurately document patient care and transport information using approved electronic patient care reporting systems. Participate in interfacility transports and specialty transfers as directed. Maintain cleanliness, functionality, and readiness of EMS equipment, vehicles, and supplies. Participate in training, continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, and community education programs. Comply with all hospital, state, federal, and accreditation regulations. Perform other duties as assigned by EMS leadership. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of prehospital emergency care practices appropriate to EMT level. Ability to assess, triage, and manage patients in emergency and non-emergency situations. Effective problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a rural environment. Familiarity with EMS equipment, communication devices, and electronic documentation systems. Ability to maintain professional composure in stressful or unpredictable situations. Minimum Qualifications
Current Wyoming EMT license at the appropriate level (EMT-B, EMT-I, or EMT-A). Current BLS certification; ACLS, PALS, or other certifications as required for EMT-I/A level. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Successful completion of pre-employment screening, including background check and drug screening. Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in rural EMS or prehospital care. Familiarity with interfacility and long-distance transport. Knowledge of agricultural, industrial, and highway-related emergencies common in rural Wyoming. ICS/NIMS training or other disaster preparedness experience. Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull patients and equipment exceeding 100 pounds with assistance. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including bending, kneeling, climbing, and prolonged standing. Ability to work in varied environments including homes, highways, farms, industrial sites, and adverse weather conditions. Availability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required. Work Environment EMTs at Memorial Hospital of Converse County provide coverage across approximately 4,200 square miles of rural Wyoming. They respond to a wide range of medical, trauma, and environmental emergencies. The role requires adaptability, self-sufficiency, teamwork, and the ability to make critical decisions in remote or resource-limited settings.
