The Nurse Educator Progressive Care will plan, implement, and evaluate orientation, competency validation, and ongoing education for nursing staff caring for high-acuity, hemodynamically stable patients requiring continuous monitoring and complex interventions. You will develop and maintain educational materials, simulation scenarios, and skills labs aligned with current clinical guidelines and regulatory standards. You will serve as a clinical resource on the unit, providing real-time coaching, precepting, and mentoring to support safe practice, quality outcomes, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Key aspects of this position include leading initiatives to improve patient outcomes, facilitating the adoption of evidence-based protocols, and supporting quality and safety projects related to progressive care nursing. You will analyze performance and quality metrics, identify gaps in knowledge or practice, and design targeted educational interventions. In partnership with leadership, you will support initiatives related to sepsis management, cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, early recognition of patient deterioration, and safe use of progressive care technologies.
As part of Mission Health’s collaborative culture, the Nurse Educator Progressive Care will foster teamwork and professional growth by coordinating preceptor programs, supporting nursing certification, and encouraging participation in shared governance and clinical advancement programs. You will participate in committees, contribute to policy and procedure development, and assist with accreditation and regulatory readiness related to nursing practice and education. The role also includes educating staff on documentation standards, patient safety protocols, and patient- and family-centered communication.
Mission Health offers a patient-centered environment where progressive care nurses are empowered to practice at the top of their license. The Nurse Educator Progressive Care will play a crucial role in onboarding new graduate nurses and experienced hires, providing structured transition-to-practice support and guiding them through competency milestones. You will also assist in identifying high-potential staff for leadership and advanced clinical roles and help map out individualized professional development plans.
The ideal candidate is an experienced progressive care RN with a strong clinical background, excellent communication and teaching skills, and a passion for mentoring others. Prior experience in nursing education, staff development, or precepting is highly valued. A BSN is required, with a master’s degree in nursing education or a related field strongly preferred. Current RN licensure in North Carolina (or compact eligibility), BLS and ACLS certifications are required, and PCCN or a similar progressive care certification is preferred or expected within a defined timeframe. This is a full-time position with a primarily on-site schedule in Asheville, NC, with some flexibility for hybrid work related to program development, virtual education, and documentation.
At Mission Health, you will join a team dedicated to excellence, respect, and continuous learning. You will have the opportunity to shape the practice of progressive care nursing, support the growth of your colleagues, and directly impact the quality and safety of care provided to our community. The role offers competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for advancement within a leading healthcare system committed to improving the health and wellness of the region it serves.
