Job Description
Job Title EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS DATA ANALYST I
Job Type Full Time
Location Columbus, Ohio
Department Various – typically located in IT, Dept. of Strategic Performance, and Dept. of Student Support
Definition This is a noncompetitive position. The hiring department will conduct a preliminary review of your application to determine who to interview. Applicants must provide a complete list of relevant work experience; resumes will not be accepted in lieu of listed work experience. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
Extract requested data from a variety of databases and integrate data into required file formats
Review data accuracy and integrity; identify and analyze error patterns in data sets; correct errors by researching sources of information
Monitor data entries for timely and accurate completion; identify issues with methods of data gathering, entry, and reporting by staff and system users, including duplicate entries and overlapping dates
Learn the specialized methods required by state and federal agencies for submission of educational data
Assist upper‑level personnel with identifying ways to facilitate processes to eliminate recurring types of errors; instruct users in new methods
Write queries and simple programs to collect and compile specific data needed for reports, as required by local, state, and federal agencies, staff, and users
Develop routine and ad‑hoc reports, tables, and graphs; provide assistance to staff in interpreting and analyzing results; develop custom reports as requested
Review data submitted to external agencies for compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
May participate in developing standards, policies, and procedures for data retrieval and reporting
Minimum Required Qualifications Possession of a bachelor’s degree with significant coursework (21 semester or 32 quarter hours) in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field, and one (1) year of experience in data analysis and research. Substitution: additional years of the specified experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year‑for‑year basis. Must attach official college transcript or degree for educational credit before submitting the application.
Preferred Qualifications
Intermediate to advanced experience with Excel
Previous experience working in the field of education
Familiarity transitioning SAS to SQL queries
Demonstrated experience using databases and related technologies
Functional understanding of data warehouse concepts and deliverables
Ability to write queries using SQL and simple programs to collect and compile specific data needed for reports
Collaborate with various internal/external departments and colleagues to gather user requirements and document the design of deliverables
Willingness to work in person and have own transportation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities General knowledge of data analysis processes, data quality assurance, relational databases, data retrieval methods, research and problem‑solving techniques, documentation and report writing, Microsoft Office (including Excel), writing queries and simple programs, the ability to retrieve, manipulate, and analyze data sets, logical and analytical problem solving, organizational and summarization skills, effective oral and written communication, and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
