Job Title: Operating Room Technician
Department: Operating Room
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM, plus rotating on-call shifts (weeknights, weekends, holidays)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated
Operating Room Technician to join our surgical team. Under general supervision, you will assist in surgical procedures, maintain sterile technique, and ensure patient safety throughout all operative processes. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional who can anticipate surgical needs and support the operating room staff effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain strict adherence to infection control policies and sterile technique during all procedures. ssist surgeons by gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments and supplies as needed. Organize and manage the operative field, keeping instruments clean and properly placed. Ensure accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after procedures. Prepare surgical supplies and equipment according to preference cards, identifying and resolving any issues. Provide a safe surgical environment, recognizing potential hazards for staff and patients. Expedite efficient operating room turnover between cases. Handle and label specimens according to policy. Serve as a resource for new OR personnel and collaborate effectively with experienced staff. Participate in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the direction of the surgeon. Respond promptly to on-call emergencies within 20 minutes. Perform additional duties as requested.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent NCCT - Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C)
OR Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or National Healthcareer Association Experience in OB/GYN, general surgery, orthopedic, and cesarean cases Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred:
Previous operating room or surgical technologist experience
Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation Excellent organizational and teamwork skills bility to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and OR team Detail-oriented with strong patient safety awareness bility to work under pressure and respond to emergencies
