divh2Certified Medical Assistant 3/h2pThis role is non patient facing/ppThe University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Certified Medical Assistant 3 to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. The Medical Assistant (MA) 3 (H) will perform multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The MA 3 shall assist patients healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The MA 3 provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 3 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The MA 3 shall adhere to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The MA 3 provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The MA 3 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission./ppAbides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information./ppDemonstrate knowledge of basic medical terminology./ppAssists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed./ppUnderstands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis. Prepares patients for physicians care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures./ppPerforms routine laboratory tests./ppPerforms vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patients medical record./ppObserves and reports patients signs or symptoms changes./ppAdministers medication safely as directed by the physician. Assists in patient care activities such as walking./ppEscorts and transports patients to various hospital locations./ppCleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique./ppSchedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work./ppProvides patient with providers care instructions and information./ppMaintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties./ppAdheres to University and unit-level Policies Procedures and safeguards Universitys assets./ppThe Medical Assistant will work with the Headache Division./ppTriage UChart In basket messages, which can include creating telephone encounters, and communicating with providers, patients, and other staff members./ppEnsure all related reports, labs and information is filed is available in patients medical records prior to their appointment/ppObtain complex authorizations for oral medications, diagnostic tests, durable medical equipment (DME), admissions, and other orders as needed./ppConfirmation of patient appointments./ppMaintains accurate and complete patient records/documentation in UChart./ppOrders, stocks, and inventories supplies and assists in performing clerical duties./ppProvides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures./ppMay assist with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments/materials to the doctor as directed, as well as with Neurotoxin mixing./ppComply with Neurology PQRS workflow./ppObserves the principles of sterile technique in performing duties./ppObtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patients medical record/ppMay give injections or treatments, perform routine laboratory tests under the direction of an attending physician, and assist in other patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps./ppEscort and transport patients to various hospital locations./ppThis list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.
