NORWALK COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Title Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Position start date is August 21, 2026 Wage Range: $17.90 - $18.90 per hour (without RBT certification) $18.90 - $19.90 per hour (with RBT certification) Reports to Behavior Specialist Hours for this position: 7:45-3:45 (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) 7:45-2:15 (Wednesday) Position Purpose : To assist students who require direct and intensive behavior support throughout the school day by delivering behavior analysis services. This would include the direct implementation of child specific Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs as described in the Individual Education Program (IEP) or as written by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This would include adhering to the Behavior Analysts Certification Board (BACB) professional and ethical compliance code. Job Goal: To improve student behavior and overall student outcomes through implementing behavior interventions plans and ABA strategies to build student skills needed to be successful in the classroom and with peers. Essential Performance Responsibilities
Implements and monitors the implementation of behavioral interventions and behavior programming for students with challenging behaviors
Assists and trains teachers and paraeducators regarding prescribed behavioral interventions and strategies
Assists with individualized assessment procedures for the purposes of developing intervention plans or analyzing progress
Assists teachers in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities
Collects/graphs accurate behavioral data
Complies with applicable legal, regulatory and workplace reporting requirements (e.g. Chap. 103 rules, mandatory abuse and neglect reporting) for the purpose of ensuring student safety
Models and teaches new behavior management skills and strategies for paraprofessionals and staff
Supports Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) for all students in all settings
Demonstrates collaborative skills in a team environment
Supports generalization of skills in an integrated setting
Actively participates at scheduled staff meetings
Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrates experience and aptitude for successfully working with students with challenging behaviors
Has knowledge, practice and evidence in effective behavior practices and specific knowledge in behavior analysis
Experience in the development and implementation of behavior plans that decrease problem behavior and increase appropriate behavior and interactions
Has successfully completed training in de-escalation strategies and crisis prevention and intervention strategies (e.g. CPI)
Collects/graphs behavioral data and trains other staff to collect/graph data for the purpose of analyzing student progress
Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the interviewer may find appropriate and acceptable
Qualifications:
Complete the required 40-hour RBT training within 1 year of employment
To be eligible for RBT pay, you must pass competency assessment within 1 year of employment
High School Diploma or equivalent
Physical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: Walking, standing, bending, carrying, climbing, lifting minimum of 20 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, and stooping. Working Conditions: Varied Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Behavior Specialist, or in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of staff. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.
