Position Type: Full Time (Day)
Position Summary Reporting to the System Supervisor 2 of Server/Storage Support, the Systems Administrator works independently and is responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of the server infrastructure. Incumbent is expected to learn new technologies that impact medical center systems as they emerge and quickly resolve integration problems. The role supports systems for two data centers running over 200 Windows and Unix-based servers and 3,000 client machines. Responsibilities include independently conducting system analysis and development, creating documentation such as server specifications and disaster recovery manuals, and collaborating with other Systems Administrators to support all clinical and non‑clinical systems for the UCI Health System.
Required Qualifications
TCP/IP, ARP, DHCP, UDP, TCP, DNS, Routing & Firewalls: Advanced experience writing and editing complex scripts for system maintenance and administration.
Scripting, Automation & Configuration Management using tools such as Python, PowerShell, Ansible or Puppet (Advanced).
Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure platforms, VMware clustering and networking.
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
Linux systems management experience with a primary focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu, as well as other distributions as required.
Strong knowledge of DNS, DHCP and WINS.
Minimum 5 years of directly related experience to Enterprise Computing as a mid to senior level staff.
Expert working knowledge of the Windows server operating system (Windows 2003 through Server 2012).
Experience with enterprise file sharing services such as DFS, including design, management and automation of tasks.
Demonstrated experience with reporting services for storage capacity, user data and growth.
Basic understanding of ITIL methodology.
Ability to generate roadmaps that include SDLC.
Fiber Channel (FC) including FC Zoning, WWNs, and storage fabric; Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Cisco UCS networking.
Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies, with demonstrated experience securing complex server‑based software.
Ability to work under minimal supervision on projects including configurations, installation and maintenance.
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System, School of Medicine, UCI Research Administration and other UC System campuses.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous work experience with scripting using Python, Bash, PowerShell, VMware PowerCLI, Ansible, or Puppet.
Previous work experience supporting Linux, VMware, Cisco UCS, Nutanix.
Knowledge of medical and academic industry structures.
Knowledge of University and Medical Center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.
Working knowledge of the UNIX OS, preferably with UNIX server administration.
Experience with Allscripts and/or EPIC Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
Experience managing Storage Area Networks (e.g., EMC, HP, IBM).
Experience managing Distributed File Services (DFS), VMware services, Active Directory, CommVault Simpana backups, Orion monitoring, Exchange 2010, Lync 2013, DNS, DHCP and basic SQL/Oracle administration.
