About
Synopsis: Tri‑Tec is searching for an Embedded Software (Firmware) Design Engineer to design, write, troubleshoot, validate, and maintain software and firmware in coordination with Senior Electrical, Software, Firmware, and Mechanical Engineers. In this role, you will support the development, deployment, and maintenance of valve actuators installed aboard current and future US Navy Destroyers, Frigates, Submarines, and Aircraft Carriers.
Responsibilities You will collaborate with Senior Electrical, Software, Firmware, and Mechanical Engineers to design, implement, troubleshoot, validate, and maintain embedded software and firmware for valve actuators installed aboard current and future United States Navy Destroyers, Frigates, Submarines, and Aircraft Carriers. Responsibilities include embedded‑control development, sensor‑data acquisition and processing, communication‑interface implementation, and system‑level integration.
Additional responsibilities include participation in configuration management, testing, qualification, and continuous improvement of both legacy and newly developed software. You will contribute to innovative and patentable technologies and support all phases of product development within a small, highly collaborative engineering team.
Qualifications
Fluency in the C programming language
Experience writing code for embedded microprocessors and microcontrollers
Strong understanding of debugging fundamentals and use of debugging tools
Experience developing sensor‑data acquisition pipelines and implementing sensor‑data processing algorithms for embedded systems
Strong electrical and PCB‑level knowledge suitable for an R&D environment including schematic interpretation, signal‑integrity considerations, and hardware bring‑up
Understanding of standard communication protocols and microcontroller peripherals including GPIO, I2C, SPI, UART, RS‑232, RS‑485, CAN, timers, counters, PLLs, reset generators, clocking, power management, ADCs, and PWM
Ability to work collaboratively to solve complex engineering problems
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Computer Engineering (second), Computer Science (third)
Preferred Experience
Designing/testing to the requirements of quality and reliability standards such as DO‑178, SS‑473
Fieldbus (Profibus, Modbus)
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $125,000 – $140,000
