About

Overview As an Investigative Data Scientist/AI Engineer, you will protect market integrity by combining investigative analysis with AI and data science to support Nasdaq’s Investigations and Enforcement program. This role requires analytic rigor, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for applying advanced technology to real‑world regulatory challenges. Key Responsibilities Investigate potential market manipulation and trading misconduct using advanced data analysis and AI tools on complex, multi‑source datasets. Design and build AI‑powered solutions—including large language model applications, retrieval‑augmented generation pipelines, and agentic workflows—to accelerate investigations. Collaborate with attorneys, surveillance analysts, and cross‑functional stakeholders to support active cases and deliver clear, well‑reasoned investigative findings. Work with external regulators and industry bodies to share insights, align on referrals, and contribute to broader market‑integrity efforts. Manage multiple concurrent matters with precision, maintaining organized and well‑documented data for enforcement work. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field, or equivalent practical experience. 3+ years of professional experience in data science or AI engineering. Demonstrated ability to develop and apply analytics, machine‑learning techniques, and data visualizations to solve complex, ambiguous problems. Experience or genuine interest in equities or options markets and the regulatory landscape governing them. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in a relevant field. Hands‑on experience building with large language models, generative AI, or agentic systems. Familiarity with cloud‑based AI and machine‑learning services and modern data‑engineering frameworks. Location & Working Arrangements This position is located in Washington, D.C. and offers a hybrid work environment with at least three days per week in‑office, subject to change. Additional compensation includes a generous annual bonus/commission and equity.
