About

SpaceLaunchSystem (SLS) Booster Hardware Integration Engineer Provide on‑site Booster Element Office (BEO) representation for Booster hardware development and processing activities at Kennedy Space Center.
Responsibilities
Provide on‑site BEO representation at Kennedy Space Center – Booster Fabrication Facility (BFF), Rotational Processing and Surge Facility (RPSF), and Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB).
Provide multidisciplinary expertise associated with flight hardware, handling/access equipment, production/ground support equipment, and tooling.
Offer expertise, guidance, and recommendations for the transition of mechanical design drawings/specifications into electronic shop instructions, training, and physical implementation of mechanical flight hardware assemblies and their associated support equipment, tooling, and facilities.
Work with and represent responsible hardware subsystem managers by providing on‑site insight into planning, processes, issues, and resolutions.
Provide the SLS BEO status of mechanical assembly and testing operations of the flight hardware and associated production support equipment.
Provide assessments of SLS Booster programmatic and technical products in support of applicable design and operations reviews.
Coordinate and communicate with other MSFC/KSC organizations.
Advise and maintain cognizance in the processing of Booster structures, assemblies, and integration hardware, including change package engineering and material review boards.
Qualifications Required:
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field (ABET‑accredited preferred). Typically equivalent to a BS with 1–5 years of experience.
Hands‑on operational experience with comprehensive knowledge of SLS and heritage Booster hardware design, production, and assembly.
Hands‑on experience with Booster operational processes, procedures, and systems.
Extensive experience with SLS and heritage Booster assembly production planning, execution, monitoring, and controlling.
Knowledge of SLS and heritage hardware production processing facilities, equipment, and tooling at the Rotation Processing and Surge Facility, VAB, and prime contractor facilities.
Experience and detailed knowledge of Booster assembly operations, sequencing timelines, labor‑loading, and associated operations procedures.
Demonstrated effective communication skills dealing with a technically diverse group of personnel (technician/engineer/quality/management).
Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess a STAR ID.
Highly Desired:
Ability to communicate significant programmatic/technical issues and potential resolution options to appropriate BEO personnel.
Working knowledge of the Booster element, including the current SLS unique production planning document development processes.
Previous effective working relationship with Booster design/assembly personnel.
Understanding and knowledge of the current SLS program and a working understanding of the SLS vehicle and interfaces.
Essential Functions Work Environment:
Office environment. Requires clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication (verbal and written, 100%). Requires interaction professionally with co‑workers, management, and client (100%). Travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires work at a computer for extended periods (100%).
Physical Requirements:
Sitting for extended periods in meetings (10%) and at a desk (80%). Ability to use stairs or elevators between floors and buildings (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Operation of a personal computer, telephone, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday 7:30–4:30, Monday–Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones.
Other Essential Functions:
Work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgment (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and not impose a safety risk to the employee or others.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
